How I work

At MourningStart, you have the option to select between individual sessions or a package. Individual sessions, which include packages, are conducted either online or at the Munich Therapy practice, located in the heart of Munich—an inviting and serene space. Choose the setting that suits your comfort best. Family counseling follows a similar approach but can also be arranged at your home if required.

The initial contact occurs via phone, during which we discuss your support needs and what I can provide. This consultation is complimentary. Following this, you can decide whether you'd like to proceed with me @ MourningStart.

If you opt for the package:

*Intake

Once you've made the decision to start counselling, I'll provide you with an intake form. This document will prompt you to provide a brief overview of the loss you've experienced, its effects, and some background information about yourself. In our intake session, we will carefully review this information and discuss your wish for support.

* Three councelling sessions

Initially, we'll delve into the impact of your loss and its effects on you. We'll discuss your coping mechanisms and assess their effectiveness in navigating the mourning process. I'll provide insights into the nature of grief, and together, we'll explore the concept of finding meaning and its application in your current life. While I can't undo your loss, my aim is to help you integrate it into your life in a more helpful way.

*Review

During this review we  discuss how things are going and where you are in your process. We decide if you need more sessions or if you are ready to continue on your own.

About me

I am originally from the Netherlands and as a mother of three, my family and I have been living in Munich for the past few years. I studied Social Work at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Utrecht (BA).  Subsequently, I pursued a postgraduate course Grief and Loss Therapy.

My professional background includes working at a rehabilitation center, where I encountered significant loss of life due to chronic illness and non-congenital brain injury, observing its impact on entire families. I've also provided support to children and young individuals coping with the loss of a parent or sibling. Through these experiences, I've come to understand that children, teens, and adults navigate the grieving process in distinct ways. In school settings, I conducted training sessions for teenagers on coping with grief during the challenging phase of adolescence.

I work with children, teenagers and adults and provide family counselling. I support people who are coping with the loss of a loved one through death and those who are coping with ongoing or 'living' loss.
